Journal Entry #1

Philippine games, sadly, in the urban and semi-urban areas are not anymore that popular when it was in the 90s. Children playing kickball, pinoy dodgeball or agawan-base in the streets are not that rampant in the present. The arrival of different hi-tech gadgets, in my opinion is the primary reason behind this. Being a witness to this phenomenon, I am a bit depressed not seeing kids playing in the streets since for me, seeing them somewhat brings a feeling of happiness and also a decrease in stress level. Also, seeing them nowadays brings out the little boy in me and that is a great feeling.

That is why when I was accepted in the Philippine games class, I felt really glad since I can be the little boy I used to be once again and play the games that made my knees bleed and wounded my arms.

The game Pinoy Dodgeball is my favourite game played in class. I’ve been playing this game when I was in Elementary. Every dismissal period, we used to play with ball made up of paper and held together by masking or electrical tape. Me and my classmates would play until our sundo arrives, and when they arrive we would be extremely unhappy since we cannot play anymore. When the game is played in class, I consider myself as the MVP since I did my best in playing the game. Jackie, for me is also one of the candidates for MVP since he caught so many balls and he is the first target of the opposing team.

Another reason why I like this game is that it requires lots of movement. Recently, I’ve been gaining weight and I think this game helped in my weight reduction program.

Agawan-Base is another game that is considered to be my favourite for the same reason as Pinoy Dodgeball. I have been playing this also when I was in Elementary. In this game, I also consider myself as the MVP because I have been aggressive in playing the game.

Egg-relay brings out the skills of people in terms of balance and coordination that is why it is one of my favourite games. Even if it is not that physical, I still liked this game since it showed how competitive the teams are thinking of strategies on how to earn first place. Everybody performed well in this game but the winning team for me are the MVPs in this one.

Agawang-Sulok is an individual game and shows how attentive an individual is and how he or she would handle panic. Almost everyone played well in this game that is why everyone is considered MVP for me.
In the game Luksong Bayo, again it is seen how competitive the people in Philippine Games class are. Everyone played the game with enthusiasm and the spirit of healthy competition. In this game, the MVP is Jandell because he jumps exceptionally well compared to others.
